Minecraft Server: Faster CPU vs Faster RAM

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

4770 all the way. There were some instances where my server's G3258 with a 4.0GHz OC was outpacing a friends 8320E at 4.5 (and that gap would only get bigger now that my server has a 4690K at 3.9).

Starting a Minecraft server (lightly modded, so slightly higher requirements but nothing crazy, using Terraforged mod if it matters.) I've got 2 computer options to run it.

Computer 1: CPU: i7-4770 | RAM: 1600MHz (Motherboard speed limit)

Computer 2: CPU: FX-8350 | RAM: 2400MHz

Heat, sound, and energy consumption are not priorities, otherwise the 2nd computer would obviously be ****.

I know Minecraft benefits from decent RAM and HD speeds when loading chunks, but I also know that single core performance is huge. Thing is, I'm only going to be supporting 10 players at a time max and some of them are speedy boys moving and will force a lot of chunk loading and unloading. Besides doing constant testing on both platforms, does anyone have any recommendation as to which computer's strength would be more valuable?

Thanks!
