Hello!

No secret that this place is getting a bit hot in the summer, but I can take a cold shower..not like my cat who hates them.
So I had an idea... make pet bed cooled with old cpu coolers?
Is there anyone doing this? What I had in my mind is not just case fans pushing some air, but having a metal plate (piece of tin?) big enough for a cat to lay on and try to attach as much cpu cooler blocks as possible under it.
All raised from the ground, box like bottom with holes on opposite sides and some fans pushing air in , maybe some drawing it out..
Am I crazy or could this actually make a pretty cool place for a cat (or dog...no bias..I just have too small apartment for a dog)?

Framing and construction would be easy...since I earn my living as a carpenter, but would this thing actually work?

If this could actually work I would try to build it...assuming I find some 12-16 old cpu cooling blocks...or could that be too much? Linus has a heat camera and a crew of people, he could make this in a day... 😄

Something like that, only maybe with bigger temperature difference. This Pet Pad gives like 5-6 C' difference....then again I will have to google how efficient are cpu cooling blocks at cooling.

my cat just chills in a box

if it's hot it sleeps on the cold floor or I put a cold bag covered with a towel inside the box

cats are cheap and don't b*tch as much as dogs lol

what about a watercooled block?

Not really on water cooling...that could be much more expensive, since this would require working water pump. Basically what I had in mind was turning trash into something useful. Years ago I had multiple stock cooling blocks and just gave them away since I saw no use for them and was using aftermarket cooling blocks.
I'd hope to get cpu cooling blocks cheap, used fans cost less than shipping usually. This could get time consuming to get materials and I'd still need free time to make it...which I already lack.
Potentially this looks like project for next years spring/summer. So I will have enough time to research and prepare, hopefully.

There are some things to considder:

1) Your cat can't sweat, so humidity is of no consideration to them.  Humidity makes things 'feel' hotter to humans because it interferes with sweating, a cooling system for the human body, but you can't interfere with what a cat doesn't have.

2) Your cat is a desert creature.  It naps in the sun for a reason, it likes the heat.  Don't leave the cat locked in a car in he summer or anything, but I'd not worry about the cat overheating with a higher than normal room temperature.  My cat even avoids the air conditioned areas of my apartment because she likes it warm. (Livingroom air conditioned in the day while bedroom is not, invert that at night).  My cat even naps on the (hot water) radiator in the winter.

You are likely to find your cat doesn't like to sleep in a 'cooled' spot it's kinda against their nature.

Chin Chillers

A slab of marble works just fine for us Chinchillas. I guess CPU coolers could work, albeit it could introduce a few more hazards.

My cat will hang out under the ceiling fan in the summer, but it's surprising how much sun they'll crave as well even in the heat.

You do know that most cats have no problem to temperatures over 40C...
They are used to warm (also cold) environment very well.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!
