I've a hp omen 15(2019) i5 9300h gtx 1660ti configuration. I have been using this laptop for a year without any problems but recently i had overheating problem. I decided to repaste my laptop with arctic mx-4. after repaste everything was fine but after a week later cpu  got 97-98 celcius. I thought its pump-out issue. I tried 3 different paste(kyronaut, zalman stc-8, arctic mx-4) and all of them did same. Then i sent my laptop to hp. Hp repaste my laptop with hp's own thermal paste. I thought problem solved but again one week later one cpu core has a thermal problem. In previous pastes all cores was 97-98 celcius. Can anyone help?

Maybe mounting pressure issue or the heatsink is not flat enough and caused some un-evenness in mounting pressure. You can flash some light and check if it dented or something.

I saw a few scratches on it when I looked at the heatsink before. Could these scratches be causing a problem?

As I always say with laptops, when reapplying thermal paste it is important to let the paste "set". That being for a at least a week or two after applying fresh paste, when you are done using it for the day, shut the laptop off and leave it flat on your desk. As much as possible, try to avoid tip[ping the laptop while it is still warm. Do this each day for a week at the very least. I have always seen the best thermals using this method, and I work on laptops for a living.

Edit: I can't guarantee this will work, but its worth trying at least if you haven't already.

Sorry I probably edited my post. Refresh plz. Build Specs Below.

I turn off my laptop every day when I'm not using it. Also, my laptop sits on a tilted cooler maybe that causing a problem.

Its possible.. when you pull the heatsink off, is there paste not covering anything? Other than that it could be what XAcid said

The larger (and longer) of the two I am assuming is your CPU? Because the thermal paste is thiccer on one corner of it indicating uneven mounting pressure. It may be just enought to affect thermals.

Well heck.. Then the only thing I can say is make sure its hyper clean with alcohol, maybe finish it with a microfiber cloth and leave it perfectly flat at the end of the day to let it set.

Other than that, is it under warranty still? It might be a faulty cpu
