Audio Help

Go to solution Solved by GotchaGod,

It's really stupid too cause it also has static while playing genshin which uses only 30% of my gpu. I'm just not going to monitor my voice unless I have to cause it always has static. No combination of cables + ports + interfaces + mics + drivers + having recently upgraded to a new PC altogether fixed the static. Guess I'm also gonna have to deal with static coming though my mic as well when I play genshin. I give up.

Edit: Fixed the issue (of the static coming through my mic) by turning the graphics down and restarting so at least it isn't static while recording genshin. (I have a 3060, I have no idea why genshin has this issue)

TLDR: XLR mics have so many problems and I'm tired of dealing with it.

Hi LTT fourm! So I have been having this issue for a while where I am hearing static / buzzing through my focusrite scarlett solo with my ath-m40x plugged into it under certain conditions (sometimes in DaVinci and OBS). I know it has nothing to do with my computer or the headphones because when I plug my headphones directly into my motherboard audio, it works perfectly fine. While I could just use my headphones plugged into my pc, it is annoying because I can't hear the audio coming out of my mic so I have no idea what it sounds like (i.e. I am too close to the mic, etc.). Anyone have this problem / have a suggestion for a solution?

Edit: I should also note that the only thing that I have done to reduce the amount it happens is changing the buffer size down to 16. While this did reduce a lot of the static, it still occurs under certain conditions.

Coil whine is the issue, your graphics card under load is creating EMI on the USB circuit your interface is plugged into, try a different USB circuit

Changing the usb and/or the cable didn't make any differences. 😔 Is there anything else I could try to do?

Not just changing USB port, changing the USB circuit, like, plug it into the USB front panel if it's plugged into the back,

Could something along the lines of a ddc do anything? It'd be an expensive solution even if that could work.

Powered USB hub or a PCIE USB card would be the next step

I'll prob just end up getting a pair of open back so I can hear myself and plug that just into my pc. It was a problem on my last pc as well and I'm tired of dealing with it.

For those who want to hear the recording:

1 - Plugged into PC

2 - Plugged into Interface (focusrite solo)

This is nothing to do with XLR mics and everythiung to do with your GPU having coil whine and introducing interference to your USB circuits

I was more talking about a XLR setup in general and not the microphone itself. In any case, at this point it's either install another usb hub that may or may not work, or just get new headphones I can use so I can hear myself while recording and plug it into the 3.5mm jack since I know it works and the audio quality will be the same most of the time.
