Hi,
I would like to build a wooden MP3 music box. It should play mp3 songs from an SD card in good quality.

I am thinking about an arduino with an audio module to select songs by pressing buttons.

I've got these 8 ohm 5 watt speakers:

https://www.waveshare.com/8ohm-5w-speaker.htm

I know soldering and programming, so no need to worry about that.

Which is the right audio module for my case?

I found this: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1788

The datasheet says, the quality will be pretty good and it contains a stereo amplifier and an SD card slot.

It's amplifier supports 1.35 W per channel so 2,7 W in total. https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/datasheets/TS2012.pdf

But is has much more fuctions than I need.

Then there is this one:

https://wiki.dfrobot.com/DFPlayer_Mini_SKU_DFR0299

It's much smaller, cheaper and has about the same output power, but mono.

Will this be as good as the one above but without the features, I dont need?

Do you have any recommendations or experience in terms of audio quality?

My build:

CPU

Intel Core i7 9700 8x 3.00GHz So.1151

CPU cooler

be quiet! Shadow Rock Slim

Motherboard

MSI B360-A PRO Intel B360 So.1151 Dual Channel DDR4 ATX

If you want quality buy a ready made BT speaker.

Unless you're willing to do the volumetric reverb calculations and such. 😉

But i would start with the power first. Choose your battery, see how much power it has, and then tune your hardware to that.
As you can have your nice 5Watt system and have 150Wh battery that would run 30 hours, personaly i would double the power have it have nicer sound and last shorter.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Yeah, there are good ones on the market.

In my case it's a personalized box for my girlfriend with our song.

That's why I am building it myself.

I will probably run it with a plug-in power supply.

Hi, I have an option for you. The idea was borrowed from a previous thread, but it will allow you to build more than one box of mp3 songs that can be played from any usb drive or embedded card.

Doesn't Victrola make stuff like this?

This is an old topic.

I bought the Adafruit "Music Maker" MP3 Shield for Arduino w/3W Stereo Amp - v1.0
and it works fine.
