Wasn't the new hdr implementation a feature for a future build?

The only similar thing I've heard is the auto HDR in DirectX so that would only work in DirectX games.

Afaik that's only available after you already turn on HDR in settings so even if you still would have to look at everything else in the sorry state it is, unless you turn it on/off while you're gaming or watching a movie, but even then if you alt-TAB we're right at the start...

Let's all agree that HDR implementation still sucks....

i still dont understand this issue… every game i played with hdr yet all i had to do was enable it in game settings… boom, worked! Even after restart.  So if thats not the case for other games, how is that windows fault? Isnt the game to blame here rather?

I'm talking about the OS itself... If you turn on HDR everything in windows is in SDR and looks like crap... games and videos CAN be fine (depending on your luck)

Ah, yeah, thats true , the windows GUI doesnt seem to have any HDR capabilities, not sure why they have a button for it… (i just dont use it, just like any other "features" that dont do anything of worth)

Problem is (for example) if you don't turn it on the OS doesn't tell chrome your display is HDR and therefore you can't see HDR stuff on youtube.... (and btw even if you turn it on properly it looks like crap on youtube, not sure why)...

Games afaik can be on HDR with the toggle off but like i said it's hit or miss: I believe only when fullscreen cause DirectX then tells the GPU to switch video output. Some video players i have no idea how they do it but i suspect openGL does the same or something...

  • 2 weeks later...

I got myself the acer predator x35. (1000 nits brightness)  it works perfect for me HDR on means hdr on. simply as that.

The issue for me is the moment I have it on. I assume my whole backlight or almost all of my backlight turns off. What I assume is if I had a driver to adjust brightness it would be perfect. This is disabled in the OSD when HDR is on. and SDR on its max it is still so dark.
