Hello everyone!

I've got a situation on my hands for quite some time now, and I wasn't able to fix it 😞

So, the situation

For some reason, it appears that my computer completely froze for yet to be found reason. I'm just browsing Chrome, and it appears that Chrome is sort of "lagging". When I tried to open the task manager, the option "Task manager" will stay printed on the screen and despite being open, the task manager won't update. I cannot't shutdown my computer, either with the "Power off" option or the terminal. While I try to taskkill the process, it says that my system is not responding 😞

I'm running out of ideas to fix this, and I don't know what's causing the issue. I suspect it to be Chrome because it only happens when Chrome is running.
I've tried to test my hard drives and SSD, I ran a complete antivirus scan and nothing. I'm lost, please help 😅

The other issue is directly in the BIOS. It seems that my BIOS reset itself from time to time, losing my XMP profile among other things (like LLC or OC). My BIOS is up-to-date, and I've noticed that despite resetting, it does not reset the clock while it did before I updated my BIOS. Even stranger, it does not happen in a specific situation. I can reboot and have my BIOS reset or use my computer for a few days without any reset and one day, it reset itself. Maybe a CMOS battery faulty?

You're my last hope, I've tried everything I could think of, digging forums and whatnot but without success so far 😢

  • Windows 10 Pro 64bits 21H1
  • Gibabyte X570 AORUS ELITE (BIOS rev. F34 2021/06/10)
  • AMD Ryzen 3700X (running@stock because of the issue)
  • 2x8GB G.Skill Trident Neo@3600MHz CAS 16
  • MSI GTX 980Ti Gaming 6G
  • Samsung 970 EVO Plus boot drive
  • Samsung 850 EVO (x2)
  • WD Caviar blue 1TB storage drive
  • Corsair HX 750i (750W 80+ platinium)

Thanks 🙂

Just looking at the beginning of your post One classic is/was large numbers of open tabs with chrome.  It got to the point that opening a bunch of tabs in chrome was actually used as a test measurement.  I don’t know if that’s even still a thing though.  Software changes. Would require a whole bunch of open tabs to even start to happen assuming it even still does.  Without data of knowing what is running there’s not many answers to give. One could open HDWINFO first and leave it running in the foreground so you could at least see what is using what I suppose.  Won’t stop a crash but might possibly tell you what is crashing it..or not.

A number of viewers won’t even look at troubleshooting stuff without hardware specs though because for all we know you’re trying to do this on some antique machine or something and your issue has nothing to do with the problems you might have if it was modern.  There are a lot of factors and hardware specs allow many of them to be crossed out near instantly.  There are some pinned posts in the troubleshooting section that describe the kinds of stuff commonly needed

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Hey! Thanks for your reply!

Indeed, without the specs it will be difficult to help me. I'll update my initial post 🙂

I'm going to let HWINFO run in the background, and hopefully I'll be able to read the data before it completely froze 🙂

Don't know if that's allowed, but if anyone has any idea how to resolve my issues. I've added my setup 🙂

Was wondering if changing the CMOS battery would fix the BIOS reset issue?

CMOS batteries just maintain CMOS when the computer is shut off.  Pulling them is sometimes a handy way of resetting CMOS. They’re not supposed to have anything to do with BIOS but I’ve heard of weirder things happening.  It’s a $3 part, so while it probably won’t help it also can’t hurt much.
