My Sapphire Pulse RX 5500 XT has always had weird issues with lag spikes and the screen staying black for like 30 seconds if I boot my PC before my monitor. But since today it's also got coil whine, and it's bad too. It's loud enough to get over my Intel stock cooler. I know coil whine usually isn't covered by warrranty, but do you think if I RMA it for the other issues and say it's also got coil whine they will fix it? It doesn't seem like a known issue for the RX 5500 XT and I don't want my money back since I paid 280 for it and I would have to pay 3x the price for the same GPU.

They usually don't fix the card you send them. They usually send you a replacement refurbished unit. You almost assuredly will not get the same card back.

Just sent them an email, hope they can fix it. Even if it's a refurbished card it's fine for me as long as the issues are fixed (especially that coil whine). Will let you know once I get a reply.

Coil whine is actually perfectly normal, But if the GPU is actually Defective you might need to RMA it, Just to reassure what are you doing... Because RMA is the last possible step. Just always real sure what the causing is, Make sure it is your GPU that Defective, Not anything else. then after that you good to go

I dont think they can even fix coilwhine because that also depends on other factors like the PSU, etc…

And if your "only" other issues are lagspikes and a black screen on startup that probably is related to your monitor, I dont think RMA is worth the risk.

Although it depends on how big the "lag spikes" actually are and if they occure in *all* games or only in certain  ones? because while that is an ok card, it certainly isnt the strongest and AMD is known to have higher fps fluctuations.

They will RMA it for me which can take up to 4 weeks. They will send me an RTX 2060 to use for when I don't have access to the GPU since I need this pc for school. So far things seem to go in the right direction...

I've been really weary about RMAing anything of late. I have a 5700XT that needs some downclocking to be stable. I've read that manufacturers aren't replacing and simply refunding, or taking many months (like 6) to replace cards due to shortages.

I have 3 years total on the warranty; it was purchased in December 2019, so it should have warranty still until the end of 2022. So I will wait to RMA until a bit later when supply is better.

For now. When my old GPU is fixed or replaced or whatever I will need to return this. I think they gave this cause that was the only thing they still had laying around.
