How do I restrict a PSU's current output?

38034580

I am using it to power some 12v electronics with low amps. If they try to draw as much amps as possible, the wires heat. And if wires touch, I want to lower the risk of fire. How do I prevent a PSU from putting out high amps whilist leaving the voltage at 12v? Same for 5v?

Wiring in a fuse to your voltage rails is your cheapest option.

replaceable fuse with its socket is probably the cheapest

or for the more complicated and "expensive" way is you can get arduino for disconnecting the circuit if the current reach your desired max output and also for monitoring the amp

That's not how electricity works.

Fuse? no. A fuse is there to prevent catastrophic failure for example this thing  starting a fire and not for current limiting.

A magical device? no. If make a current limiter the voltage will drop so the current limit isn't exceeded.

So the only option is to make sure your 12V load isn't pulling more then it should.

true is not for current limiting but its a cheap option to prevent or kill power to a circuit that drawing more than a certain amount of current the fuse is rated at

STOP. Honestly, stop. I've looked at your posts. You are doing things you do not have the skills to do. You are risking injury and fire. Please, stop trying to power things with a standard ATX power supply. Get the correct power adapters, or seek assistance from an electrician, or electrical engineer who knows what they are doing,

I'm not saying this to be rude, I'm saying it because I don't want something bad happening.

What you are wanting to do with PSU's are not in line with what PSU's are designed for.
