Why does my mouse/keyboard malfunction when plugged into my external USB hub?

Reiidar

I'm currently using a laptop with 2 usb ports, I used to have another PC but since someone else in the family needs to use it during the pandemic I've been forced to buy an external USB port(I'm using a UGreen branded one with 4 ports).
It used to work just fine, the external USB port has a keyboard, an external HDD, and occasionally for charging Fiio A1 amp(the really small one).

It happens most often when I'm running "Genshin Impact", the keyboard would stop responding to my command and the game reacts as if I have one of the WASD keys pressed down. When I swap the keyboard with the mouse, the mouse would be the one to not respond at times. Did I buy a faulty USB hub? or is it completely on me and I'm trying to get way too much out of it? In any case I don't believe the mouse/keyboard itself is the problem since they both work fine if they're the one plugged in to the one free USB port.
