Absolutely cannot open BIOS anymore, boot problems and fan calibration after BIOS update (Gigabyte Aorus X399 Extreme)

Go to solution Solved by Kilrah,

I see you have 2 GPUs, try connecting the monitor to the other, or even removing one? Could be deciding the primary GPU isn't the one you're expecting and displaying the BIOS there.

Hello,

I cannot access my computers BIOS anymore. I tried to update via the "@bios Update from server" software from Gigabye. I think it worked and it was on latest version F5. But I absolutely can not get into the BIOS screen. I tried every solution I could find on Google. Reset CMOS via button and jumper, unplugging, turn off fast boot, cabled USB Keyboard in first slot, etc.

When I turn on the computer the screen stays black, fans and leds are running. It stays like that until I hit the "force restart" button on my computer. It then takes very long to boot and I have to press enter or any other button, so the windows login screen eventually appears. I now changed back to BIOS version F3, but the problems stayed.

Originally I wanted to check my RAM frequency. I have DDR4-3000 RAM, but it only shows a frequency of 1197 MHz.

It also messed up my fans calibration. I always used Aorus System Information Viewer SIV in Advanced Slope Mode to control fan speed and it worked flawlessly. But now the fans spin a lot faster than before. I set it on 30% which should equal 734 rpm, but they are spinning at 1080 rpm. Same for the watercooling pump. I can't get the system silent anymore, like it was before.

Can you please help me? Thank you!

My System:

– Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme AMD X399 So.TR4
– 6 x 16GB (1x 16384MB) Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Dual Rank grau DDR4-3000 DIMM CL16-18-18
– AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X
– 2 x MSI 2080ti
– 1 x Asus 3090 EKBW
– Corsair AX1600i PSU
– SAMSUNG NVMe SSD 970 Evo

– Custom Watercooling from Corsair
– Windows 10

Thanks for you reply. I tried using QFlash Plus from Gigabyte with an instruction video from youtube. But it does not do anything. Nothing shows up. Display stays black. Black unitl eventually Windows Login shows up after force restart. No Aorus logo or anything – just black. That's what I dont understand. Usually there is this logo with the line beneath to press F2 or DEL. But it's not there.

My motherboard has a BIOS_SW switch to run a second (backup) Bios, but this did not have an effect either.

I'm super desperated...

Did you try entering UEFI from Windows?

Yes, it stays black unfortunately. I also created one of these shortcuts with /r /fm and that did not work either.

I usually google at least 6 hours before I ask in a forum. I really don't know what to do anymore. Thanks

I attached the monitor from the 3090 to one of the 2080tis and that did not have an effect either. But now I attached it to the other 2080ti and that WORKED! Thank you Kilrah! So I probably was in BIOS when I smashed the DEL key, but I did not notice because the screen was black and that prevented Windows from booting.

Just increased the RAM from 2400 to 3000 MHz. That worked as well.

Now the only problem left is the fan speed. Is there something I have to adjust in BIOS? I want to control the fans with AORUS SIV like I did before, but as you can see in the screenshot, the actual RPM (left) does not correspond with the set up RPM from the curve... Is the software overwriting the settings in BIOS? I can set curves there as well.

P.S.: Removing a card would have been a pain 😄

Oh 3 cards even, didn't see the 2nd line, 2 seemed enough already 😄

In some BIOSes you can select which PCIe slot should be the primary display adapter, so if that's the case on this one you should be able to set it back to the 3090. Probably got reset or the default changed when the BIOS was updated.

For the fans not sure, all I know is every mobo fan control software I've used was trash... tend to try to set up in the BIOS if I can.

It seems to say "System 5 pump" on the left, so maybe that output is configured in the BIOS to be a pump output?

Ok, I will try and find a setup that works and set it in BIOS. Probably have to wait for summer temperatures, to see how it performs. 😄 Thanks, once again Kilrah!
