Using the old system for a Minecraft server or something else.

I've been thinking of reusing my old system as a Minecraft server or something else potential if I find a better use for it it. What would I essentially need from software to set it up well for approximately max 10 players (usually the player of 8) and would I even be able to do so.

 

CPU: Intel i3-3220

8GB of RAM

No GPU

You might get a bit of lag from time to time, but it would definitely run better than any free server hosting website you could find. Just make sure you have the system connected via ethernet if possible.

For a Vanilla server, a 3rd gen i3 with 8GB RAM should be fine. I run a Minecraft server as a virtual machine with 3 CPU cores and 4GB of RAM and it has never skipped a beat, for 5 players, that is.

 

Make sure you're not on some old ass DSL connection with 1 Megabit upload, as that'll be the main issue then.
