Free sync causes lag

Go to solution Solved by Mathantastic,

So, I have a ryzen 7 5800x and an rx 570 (my old gpu, cause new ones are too expensive lol), and any time I try to run a game and free sync is on, I get terrible stutters, the framerate and frametime shows perfectly on MSI afterburner's overlay, but its really noticable that there is a lot of stutter. If I put the game on windowed mode, or turn off free sync, it goes away (i already tried disabling full screen optimization, doesn't work)
Even simple games like age of empires 2 DE, when free sync is on, it stutters like crazy, and is completly and utterly unplayable

edit: I think I just solved it, it wasn't what people were saying, but for some reason letting the framerate unlocked, or turning on v-sync was causing the stutter, if someone could explain why I'd appreciate. Locking the framerate with riva turner seems to fix it perfectly

Does your monitor run at one refresh rate without VRR and a different refresh rate with VRR?

My monitor only runs at 60hz with Freesync off but 75hz with it on. But, if I don't go in and increase my refresh rate to to 75hz in windows display setting I get stutters as the game runs at 75fps but Windows is locking the monitor to 60. Took me a bit to figure out the problem.

Have you turned on the setting that is called 10 bit pixel format by any chance?

If you have, that is the reason. I got stutter when both that and Freesync was on, but not even only one of them was on at the time.

the game is running at 1080p, cause framerate sucks at 4k.
Can it still give an issue? where if windows is at 4k but game at 1080p it performs worse than if everything is in 1080p?
About the color format, idk, I didn't configure that, I just plugged the cable and thats how it showed up lol, could this be the issue? and if so, how do I change it?

What it says there doesnt matter I dont think. Open Radeon Software and check if this is off:

Yes, try lowering windows resolution to 1080p.
