So I'm planning to upgrade my PC but I have quite a lot of questions, so if anyone can help answering them I will greatly appreciate it.

I already have a RTX 3070 and I mostly game at 1080p 144Hz, I have a 3 monitor setup, do graphic design and a little bit of stream, and I may do some light video editing in the future.

  1. My current CPU is a 3rd gen i7, it heavily bottlenecks my system on certain games, I was thinking on getting a 5600X or a 11400F, but the 5600X is way more expensive, here are my questions: Will any of these CPU bottleneck the RTX 3070? Does it make sense to buy the 5600X (or even go to the 5800X) to future proof my system a little bit or is the difference between these CPUs not worth the extra money?

  2. I plan to use a ML240L v2 to cool the CPU (mainly because I want to try an AIO after using Air all these years), I will use the radiator fans as top exhaust, and I already have 2 140mm fans on the front as intakes, my case is a Cougar Gemini S, since the front airflow is kinda restricted, should I put the rear 120mm fan as a intake or exhaust? Will it even matter?

  3. I currently have 1TB nvme SSD and 1TB HDD, I plan to upgrade the HDD to another nvme SSD 1TB, since boot times are equal, should I install the OS on the slower SSD to have more space on the faster one for my files or is there any other reason to install it on the faster one?

Thanks in advance.

1) A 5600x will do perfectly with a 3070, you would also need a new motherboard (B550)

2) You could put the put 2 fans at the front a 2 for the aio on top and forget about the rear exhaust

3) Your boot drive should be on the faster drive for faster load times and system responsiveness.

Install OS on the fastest storage drive you have. So on the NVME drive. If you have a supporting mobo, ideally on a PCIe 4.0 capable m2 slot. If not 3.0 is also fine.

No, these CPUs won't bottleneck a RTX 3070. 11400F is a great mid-range CPU right now for the price compared to a 5600X. There's really no such thing as future proofing, but if you want to option to still upgrade on the AM4 platform (AMD), then you can up to 16C/32T with the 5950X if you ever choose to do so, while Intel's offerings besides HEDT only go up to 10C or 8C, Comet Lake (10th gen) and Rocket Lake (11th gen) respectively.

If the case airflow is restrictive, I'd upgrade the case to something like a Corsair 4000/5000 Airflow lineup or like Phanteks P400A. If you are going to use your current case, I'd go keep the rear 120mm as an exhaust. Generally, you want front/bottom and sides to be intake with rear/top as exhaust.

Keep the OS on the faster SSD to speed up boot times and if you have some games on it, it'll be an improvement over a HDD.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I plan to use this case, I will do some test with the rear fan as exhaust and intake since I want to keep the pressure positive. By the way, when I got my PSU I didn't know about the PSU Tier List and my current PSU is a EVGA 700 BR, would you recommend getting another one or just keep the EVGA?

I'd recommend getting another PSU if you plan on upgrading to higher end hardware/components. Not much is known about the unit and I'd rather see a unit have a 10 year warranty from either Tier A or B from the PSU Tier List.
