Why is everything so slow?

Go to solution Solved by MegaDave91,

The computer took 5 minutes to boot, it usually takes 12 seconds.

Maybe it had something to do with booting for the first time in a while (though I don't see why that would make a difference). Have you rebooted again?

I rebooted it again and now it seems fine. But i don't understand why it was slow to begin with.

Here are the possible cause that I can think about:

-> It was probably doing a Windows update, which was pending when you left.

-> You have an A/V that at times does a virus check before Windows starts on some Windows files, if you don't do it within Windows after a while. (Windows Defender/Security Essentials does not do this, to my knowledge).

-> System was waiting for the HDD to spin up to it's full speed, and the HDD had trouble as it was not spines for a while (and of course faulty, as it should not mater. (This only adds wait to the POST process not Windows starting up, unless the HDD is failing. If it was failing then it would be always slow or randomly slow. So I don't think that's the case for you)

-> You had a BSOD at the last system shutdown, and Windows did a full boot process ignoring Prefetch and boot optimizations (essentially recreating everything)

Dude, WTF? You can go to prison for that!

The stone cannot know why the chisel cleaves it; the iron cannot know why the fire scorches it. When thy life is cleft and scorched, when death and despair leap at thee, beat not thy breast and curse thy evil fate, but thank the Builder for the trials that shape thee.
