CAN CONVERTER CAN HELP?

Go to solution Solved by BuzzingBee,

Decided to try for myself as I got GT 710 as my secondary gfx card. For both HDMI and DVI by default it goes up to 1080p 120hz. Then I tried creating custom resolution with 1080p 144hz and it worked for DVI only.

I bought the new 1080p 144hz monitor, BENQ ZOWIE XL2411k, Which has 1x Display Port, 1x HDMI 2.0.
I want to run that monitor on  1080p 144hz, but the problem is i have msi gt 710 2gb variant (ill upgrade that later, as of gpu shortage).

but when i plugged the HDMI cable (not sure which version cable) into HDMI 2.0 slot and into my gt 710. it show max upto 1080p 120hz, my gt 710 does not have DP port so that i can directly can get 1080p 144hz.

Q1. If i use HDMI to DP converter (DP monitor out, hdmi gpu IN) will it show me 1080p 144hz?
Q2. If i get high speed HDMI cable can use it in the computer will it give me 144hz?

I personally wouldnt waste a single dime. This sounds more like cable issue than anything else but I might be wrong here.

No, it won't help.

GT710 doesn't support 144hz.

Not too sure for GT 710, but 1080p 144hz could be supported over DVI-D. But then you need DVI-D to displayport or DVI-D to HDMI converter.

Still, I rather take 120hz for now until you can get a better graphics card.

Low end cards like GT 730 and below do not support dual-link DVI, their DVI ports are single-link only.

I haven't found any evidence as to whether your card can or cannot output 1920x1080@144hz
Here are some things to try:

  • Create a new display mode and see if it accepts 1920x1080@144hz as input (this is probably done in the nvidia control panel)
  • Lower the resolution to something like 640x480 (for testing) and see if you can crank up the frames

If 1920x1080@144hz doesn't work but 640x480@144hz does work, then i'm afraid you are being limited by the clockspeed of DVI (Where every clock cycle is a horizontal line of the picture)

Please keep in mind:

I may be stupid.
