Looking to replace my aging Dell XPS 8700. Processor is going to be the AMD Threadripper Pro, 280Watt version. Here is the problem. How do I go about cooling it? Not interested in a custom liquid-cooled system, however I would consider a pre-filled, closed-loop (pump and a radiator) system, or a decent cooling fan. Any reccomendations?

Thank you

Good 360m maircoolers like EK AIO, Artic Freezer II or lian li galahad.

or good aircoolers like dark rock pro 4, NHD 15 or scythe fuma. but you have to make sure that they fit in the case

Edit: Also make sur you have the TR aka Threadripper version of the coolers it that is available

You sure you need a Threadripper Pro? It's cool and all. (actually pretty hot), but would a Ryzen 5000 not make more sense?

Why though? Honestly ryzen 5000 series wouldve made more sense, or even the standard Threadripper 3960X.

If you already bought it, well no use over crying to spilt milk. NH-D15 TR4/SP3 would be my pick on this one, or if you can find it, Prosiphon elite from icegiant. For AIOs, besides custom watercooling it, i dont have any recommendation thats actually recommended for a TR4/TRX40 design

Make that a must, honestly.

I would stay away from AiOs with threadripper. Either you have a small coldplate which won't cover the huge threadripper IHS or you go for the Enermax one and switch it out in a year because it's gunked up. (Afaik the only AiO with the TR4 coldplate, but it's known to be extremely unreliable).

I'd go with a Noctua NH-D14 TR4 and call it a day. Plenty of cooling for the CPU, while also being the most reliable option out there.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I would definitely not recommended an aio for threadripper because of this

Instead you can choose ethier tr4 version of nh-u9 or nh-u14s

Especially nh-u9 if you need relatively small cooler
