34' 100hz 1440x3440 ultrawide vs 27' 1440x2560 165hz 16:9

Flyingchickennugget27

should i get a 34' ultrawide 100hz monitor or for 100AUD less (roughly 75 USD) i can get a 27' 1440p 165hz normal monitor, i mainly game, edit and programme on my pc, which option seems better

If it is a samsung VA, then ultrawide. Theyre the few of the good tier ones on the market and usually runs pretty reliably.

"Yes". It's a niche and well most CAN display at that ratio not all do it well. I've run into a fair share of games that just stretch their camera or give a wide angle lens view. For gaming I always still recommend the good old 16:9 monitors.

As for op the Gigabyte G27Q is in budget here and has a better panel than the viesonic it is "only" 144hz but there is not discernable difference between 165 and 144hz so nothing lost really.

Go for the 34" 100 hz model.

At that resolution, 100 fps will be good enough, unless you have a monster graphics card you won't get  much more fps at decent quality.

extra horizontal resolution would benefit you in the programming job, more room to keep documentation open and stuff like that, a youtube page, less need to alt tab or move your focus away.

I'd base the decision on what games you play. But ultrawide is a subjective matter and personally i'd rather go with 16:9 for the peace of mind that you won't have to troubleshoot any game to properly work with your aspect ratio.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Idk about australian pricing, but you could maybe even score a LG 27GN850 or LG 27GL850 for that money, which will be a better monitor than either of them.

the gigabyte one is cheaper than the viewsonic one, but both are on sale so the gigabyte one is slightly more but fits within budget

It is the better monitor as it just has superior colours than the viewsonic. If you can afford it I'd get that.
