Can i use 3200mhz ram

Go to solution Solved by Nathanpete,

3200 MHz will not substantially increase performance, and your laptop's mobo probably doesn't support anything above 2666 MHz. Just buy a 2x8GB 2666 MHz of SODIMM memory.

Hey,

I own an Omen laptop

Basically omen 15 2018 model.

It has an intel i5 9300h with 1x8gb 2666 ram.   But now I'm thinking to upgrade it to 2x8gb ram but I'm thinking will putting 3200mhz will increase performance and will be stable?

More advices are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, especially on a laptop you're probably best not fooling with different RAM speeds.

Current Personal Rig

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X w/ Corsair H60 AIO   MB: ASRock B450 Steel Legend ATX  RAM: 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 (2x16)  GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 XC Gaming  PSU: EVGA 750GQ Semi-Modular  Storage: 500 GB WD Black M.2 NVMe + 1 TB 2.5" SSD  WiFi: TP-Link Archer TX3000E  Keyboard: Corsair K65 Mini  Mouse: Logitech G502 Wired  Monitor: Gigabyte G27FC 27"

So sticking with same pre-installed brand ram is a good idea ...just need to buy 1 8gb stick 2666

I mean if you take out the original stick, and look at the product code (usually over 15 characters long) on the sticker of the stick, then buy another stick of the exact same code online, then you can guarantee you won't have compatibility problems. For example, there are three manufacturers of the memory chip on the stick: Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. Sometimes if you put in a 2666MHz 8GB stick from samsung in a computer with another 8GB 2666 MHz stick, but from SK Hynix, then the stick may not play well with each other and your mobo may refuse to acknowledge one of the sticks.

What you can guarantee is that the memory stick wont be damaged in shipping. But you can only ever guarantee that when buying something in person.
