As I'm sure many of you read about, a news report was released about a Tesla vehicle engine catching fire. It looks to be as if they've responded with a proper solution being added to cars manufactured from March 6th onward.

"Elon Musk and his company have been touting Tesla cars as the safest cars on road. However, they have been eating their words recently with a few of Tesla’s Model S vehicles catching fire following accidents. The company has now announced a fix for the cause. Musk spoke about an all new titanium shield and aluminium deflector plates that guard the under-body of the vehicle through a post on personal blogging site, Medium.

Reportedly, all cars that are produced after 6 March will have the new safety mechanism. Even the existing vehicles can get it added free of cost.

The possible reason that the cars caught fire on colliding was because the shield that protected the battery was also compromised when the vehicle struck metallic objects in the road running at high speed. Now, along with the “quarter inch of ballistic grade aluminum armor plate that protects the battery pack,” Tesla Model S will have an additional protective layer."

I'm glad to see that they've taken previous customers into consideration and will be fixing it free of cost. When reading this article this was the main concern I had.

wow i wasnt expecting them to fix it nor did i know there was more than one that caught fire well this is definitely a good thing maybe phone manufactures should learn from this when u hear about iphones and ipads exploding and they do anything to fix the problem.

Edit: before anyone says its not just apple products i know its not i just said because i think everyone would be familiar with the apple incidents.

It reminds me of the Xbox 360 red ring of death in a way. Although the percent of individuals who experienced this is minute they've taken it upon themselves to address the issue and make sure previous customers are taken care of as well. This is how a company should act.

Well it's like many people have said before, you never know if they're charging it with a $2 Chinese cable that has zero safety ratings and isn't meant for any real amount of power use, however small a phone needs. You also can't know if they microwaved it and said it blew up later.

Yes I have experienced that I bought a lightning cable for $15 and the end cable disconnected from the actual connector and started burning threw the cord and was smoking but do u really think a phone provider would not use the cable that came in the box to display the phone? And doesn't explain how one exploded in that girls pocket.

Flukes happen, especially when you sell millions of devices. People also lose everything so I would expect them not to use the provided cable.

Sigh, Tesla is such a great company and car maker, but I really hate how people exagerate any faults since electric really didnt catch on as much before it.

I know a good amount of people dont even want to consider a Tesla due to this. When you compare to all the things that traditional cars are prone to, this is miniscule.

Internal combustion vehicles are far worse, due to leaking oil and gas everywhere in an accident.

Good guy Musk for fixing this. More info is linked on the Tesla Motors blog.

This is good, except the fact that they are not forcing previously produced cars to obtain the new safety tech. If this was any other car manufacture they would have done a mass recall until they fixed the problem. Tesla is just offering it free but hopefully it is notifying all its customers to upgrade as soon as possible.

Not really worse but there is the possibility of them catching fire. In a normal car u need 2 things for the car to catch fire, fuel (oil or petrol) and an ignition method (spark), to get the two together is very rare (my guess would be under 0.01% of car accidents).
