Auros B550i dual M.2 query
Go to solution
Solved by Chris Pratt,
The front M.2 runs off the CPU lanes, while the back M.2 runs off the chipset lanes. On B550 boards CPU lanes are PCIe 4.0 and chipset lanes are PCIe 3.0. Either supports NVMe, the difference is only bandwidth, and thus the maximum data transfer rate of the drive. PCIe 4.0 can do 7000MBps, while PCIe 3.0 maxes out at 3500MBps. Just make sure you don't buy a PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive for the back slot. It will still "work", but you'll only get half the advertised speed and they're a lot more expensive.
