HDMI Acer Predator x34a capped at 50hz

Go to solution Solved by --SID--,

R9 280 has HDMI 1.4 2560x1440 @60Hz, 3440x1440 @50Hz, 3840x2160 @30Hz, 4096x2160 @24Hz.

You can get a cheap gpu like GT 1030 GDDR5 or RX 550. They'll do the job.

Hi there,

* So I am trying to get 3140x1440@100hz with my Acer Predator x34a (an older model capped at 100hz).

* My OS is Windows and my GPU is a AMD R9 280 with latest drivers (older card).

* The ports on my GPU are the following: HDMI, 2xMini-DisplayPort.

* The monitor is correctly OC'ed and I am familiar with changing monitor frequency within Windows; hence I firmly believe it to be a hardware/cable issue.

* I have used the monitor before at 100hz with Displayport and my older nvidia cards: RTX 2070 & GTX 970.

Currently:

With my probably outdated MiniDisplayport to Displayport cable I am able to run at 60hz.

With both my newly bought (supposedly) 2.1 HDMI and older HDMI cable I am capped at 50hz.

Any idea what I could try, or what is certain not to work?

Thank you so much!

Would you happen to know about the specifications for the Mini-Displayport?

(The specific card is a Club 3D Radeon R9 280 royalKing)

Seems to suggest that the bandwidth is superior for HDMI... Could you verify? because I am able to do 60hz with MiniDisplayport which seems to run contrary to the maximum resolution as a proxy for bandwidth.

No refreshrates mentioned and HDMI resolution is wrong.

HDMI 1.4a is not superior to DP1.2. DP1.2 supports 4096x2160 @50Hz. HDMI 1.4a supports 4096x2160 @24Hz.

Here's what MSI tells us about resolutions.
