I’m upgrading from GTX 1060 to RTX 2070 Super. I’d like to keep the old GPU for mining. My PSU has only two PCIe power connectors and the 2070 needs both.

The GTX 1060 uses about hundred watts while mining and the PCIe slot can provide 75 W so I only need another 25 W. Would it be safe to use a Molex to PCIe adapter to provide the extra power?

That's not how it works. Some GPU's take a few watt from the slot and the rest from PEG connector.

Molex to PCI-e is not safe.

If theoretically you only need 25w to 75w of power, i suggest to just buy a

Budget 450w power supply... Like this

Or if you like to tinkering (like me)

a 12v 30A power supply like this one would do the trick

I think I’ll upgrade my PSU to something with at least three PCIe power connectors. The current one would be barely powerful enough anyways.

Bhphoto has the Darkpower 1200 in stock. I added (2) to my horde of supplies. I need to replace the crappy 750 that came in my RoG bestbuy computer. RoG went sketch on a lot of gear in there.
