How Can I use a tiling Window manager as a Desktop environment on Ubuntu

Go to solution Solved by Princess Luna,

I have prior experience with sway (i3 window manager ported to Wayland), and it was fairly straightforward to install it, and I've had packages like the app launcher, background, and everything installed in there. All the settings had to be edited via my text-only config files, though, no nice GUI menu to adjust the settings (as it was unimportant to me). You have to make sure all of the packages are installed and function properly before you actually switch to the new window manager / compositor.

Although this probably wouldn't be helpful to you as I use quite an obscure Linux distro (NixOS), my config file may give you an overall idea of what packages you can expect to need to install to get a more or less workable installation (obviously you'd need to find equivalents for your specific tiling manager): here's my sway.nix config file

I had to eventually switch back to gdm3 (GNOME) when I upgraded to 5.10 kernel series and open-source nvidia drivers (nouveau) just stopped recognizing my graphics card. I wish you the best of luck

EDIT:
Forgot to mention I also needed to bind a lot of the commands to some sort of keyboard shortcut, so when I press, for instance, Super+N, it opens the app launcher bar.

I am currently using awesomewm on my ubuntu 20.04 lts installation and i want to switch to a tiling window manager, however I have been deterred by my experience following this guide

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK3KpLZdoO4&t=345s

as when i went on to it there was nothing there and i couldnt do anything such as load programs etc, would there be a way to install a taskbar, an app finder, background, settings etc on a tiling window manager?
