When installing the CPU on a new motherboard, how important is it to clean every spec of thermal paste off all the edges of the CPU?

Below you can see that I had some trouble getting all of the compound off the edges of the CPU.  Is this a problem?

As long as the top part of the IHS is clean, meaning the part that actually makes contact with the cooler, then there is no issues whatsoever.

Side note: Is that an actual 11900K. Where all the 10900K processors sold out? 😄

I don’t know if they were sold out.  I wanted an 11900K.  I was quite happy with it on the motherboard I just uninstalled.
