data transfer

hi,

 

got a new laptop on its way will be here in the next few days whats the best way to transfer all my games over to the use system instead of downloading them all again as that seems like the longest and hardest way to do it i dont have a 1tb hdd just kicking about to use for it as thats what i have done in the past any ideas people

Remove storage from laptop, install onto your PC, format and parition (if needed), transfer, install back on laptop. That's what I'd do.

Share the folder and then copy it across the network.

 

Or... if you use steam check the menu, there's a backup games option somewhere in the menu.

You select your games and steam creates archives of the games you selected.... you copy over those archives, and restore games from steam menu.

 

or what murasaki says ... if it's easy you can open the laptop and your new laptop has a location for a ssd or 2nd drive, transfer the ssd into the new computer, copy files over and then put it back in your ssd.

Didnt really want to be opening a new 4k laptop as warranty will be void and i have 700gb of data to transfer

That's pretty lame. Then theres the option to do it the other way around and plug the PC's drive to your laptop but depending on what drive you have you'd need an external enclosure. Sucks manufacturers have to void warranties just because you want to swap a drive.

New laptop coming with a 2tb drives faster then my 1tb m.2 that i have any way
