Title says it all really.

Here's the video where I saw it first:

Minecraft SCAM - Convention: Breaking It Down & H…:

The guy does a great job at explaining.

Here's the summary:

Kids are sad that they weren't able to attend minecon, so they were extremely glad when this local convention popped up.

They bought their tickets and the event was supposed to happen in December last year.

Strangely, it got delayed to March.

It opened at 12.20pm, and shut at 2.20pm.

They were supposedly sponsored by Nickelodeon, and Red Bull. This is Bull (sh*t).

Numerous giveaways and competitions were announced, but pretty much none of them happened. The most scandalous of which was promising that the winners would become famous YouTube stars thanks to the incredible connections Meeting of the Mines has (company name).

(The reason why this is so scummy is the reactions of the children who thought they'd become the next captainsparklez and such).

They did give away some pens though. They had the balls to actually give ball point pens away.

The venue had literally nothing there, aside from some drapes. It seems obvious that there had been a wedding just prior.

The convention shut prematurely with one of the organisers telling them to get their refunds by emailing. Unfortunately, customers who used PayPal were screwed as it has been past 30 days since the purchase of the tickets (remember that delay?).

There's even more crap in the video, but the long story short is that someone just sold a pack of lies to children, and made $50k+ easily.

Tea, Metal, and poorly written code.

$50k+? How many fucking kids went ffs?

I can't remember, but there were a ton.

Furthermore, it appears another fake convention was in New York - by the same guy. The venue was already taken by someone else though (he hadn't booked it), but since the event wasn't technically cancelled, he is refusing to give refunds to that. Who knows how many bought tickets for that event...

The guy's name is Kevin Roman by the way. On Craigslist, he was advertising his Mansion (8 bedroom) for people doing photography.

Tea, Metal, and poorly written code.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

It's scams and stunts like these that not only hurt people but give the PC Gaming community a bad rap with non-gamers and in particular, news media because they will turn around and spin it into a completely different story of lies just to get a few more views.
