If I have to choose only one, I guess Natural Selection 2 on Steam.

 

If I am allowed to choose several:

 

- Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri on GoG.com

- Galactic Civilizations II

- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (the original, with expansions)

- Garry's Mod (don't pay more than $5 for it though)

- Minecraft

- Mirror's Edge

- The Walking Dead (Telltale games)

- Path of Exile (free!)

- War Thunder (free, but has paywalls, beware)

- Portal 1 and 2

- Trine series (if you have a friend or two to play with)

- Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3

- Syberia series on GoG.com

- The Longest Journey and Dreamfall on GoG.com

- Sanitarium on GoG.com

- Metro series (but don't pay more than $5 each)

- Civilization V (when on sale)

DayZ standalone. I have like 130 hours in it and still play it daily.
