Some PSU's have a relay inside that physically cuts the power when the unit is shut down, it is probably that.

Powerspec 1530 (Clevo PB50DF2) ~ i7 10875H ~ RTX 2070 Super 115W ~ 32GB DDR4 ~ 2x 1TB NVMe ~ 2TB 5400RPM ~ 1080P 240hz matte IPS

Gigabyte G1 GA-970-SLI ~ FX 8320 @ 3.3Ghz, 1212mV ~ 16GB DDR3 ~ Radeon 570 4GB ~ 512GB NVMe ~ 2x 1TB HGST 7200RPM

Xtras ~ Dell 22" 1680x1050 matte IPS monitor ~ Logi M705 mouse ~ PowerA Fusion Pro Xbox One controller ~ Sony XB950N1 headphones ~ Epson V700 film scanner

Streaming Setup ~ OBS Studio with AMF encoding ~ iVCam bridged to LG G6 ~ Focusrite Scarlett Solo interface ~ TONOR condenser cardioid mic

If it's a click then it is likely the 5VSB relay.

When a PC is shut down the PSU is in a standby mode where it still provides 5V to the system to keep the motherboard powered so it's ready to turn on and keeps its settings (without relying on the onboard battery) and also power USB devices in standby. This 5V is provided by the 5VSB, which is like a smaller separate power supply within the PSU that only provides +5V. The click you hear when you shut down is likely as it switches between regular operation and switches in to 5VSB mode. Normal, and something a lot of PSUs do.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

I don't know why people are confused when they hear a click sound from their PC when they turn it on and off.

Because that click is scary loud.

Entertainment electronics usually don't make such sounds at startup/shutdown.

Old TVs and VCRs aside, I do not remember ever hearing clicks that loud with consoles, laptops, mobiles, etc.

And it's not like I grew up in the 2010s. I've seen all kinds of stuff in my lifetime, growing up in a household that had a black and white TV.

None of my TVs / monitors do that. What is it that makes a click inside your TV? (not sarcarstic, genuinely curious)

Your TVs when "soft off"?  I have a 43" LG Plasma.  We keep it "soft off" (it's in standby).  When you press the ON on the remote, it goes "CLICK".

Maybe because it uses a lot of power.  Almost any time you have something that goes from standby to "on" and uses a good deal of power, you want a relay in place.

An old black and white wouldn't do that because you can't put an old black and white in standby.  😄

I was like 5-6 years old when my parents got rid of it, don't remember much. But what I know for sure, is that it didn't have a remote, to turn it on and off you had to get up and press a loud, poorly stabilized, clicky button that felt cheap as freak lol

Ooh!  Actually I do know of an old TV with a loud click.  My grandmother had an old Zenith Space Command TV in the bedroom we would stay in.   It actually used audible signals from the remote to turn on, off, change channel, increase volume, etc.

It used used hammers hitting aluminium rods within the remote.   They were supposed to be higher than human hearing tones, but as kids we could definitely hear them.
