The problem with 35mm is it’s also a film stock width so I’m not 100% sure what you are referring to.  Sigma had a rep for light not all that optically terrific but generally serviceable lenses.  A 35mm focal length for a 35mm film camera would be considered moderately wide angle.  F1.8 is a bit slow for wide angle though.  1.4 would have been more common, which makes me wonder if this is a 35mm film stock equivalent or not. If it IS 35mm film stock equivalent either a 30 or a 56 wouldn’t make a very big difference.  A 25mm could be interesting though it would start to get a bit fish eye. A 65mm could also be interesting.  Most 35mm film cameras generally came with a pretty decent 50mm lens though.  If you DONT have a 50mm lens a 56 could make sense.  If you do though a mere 6mm just isn’t going to do very much and there’s a decent chance the lens is worse quality than the bog standard one that came with your body.   If you’re carrying around a dozen lenses I suppose 5 and 6 mm differences could mean something.   The general move was to fill out the spectrum between very wide and telephoto though.  I had a camera with a 30, the 50 it came with, and a 70-210 zoom that weighed probably 4 times what the camera did. Good lens though.  Quite fast for its focal length.  You pay for that in glass weight though. Coat twice what my other two lenses would together.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

It might now. My information is old.  When I was using cameras regularly the best stuff was German followed by Japanese, though either country could produce second level companies.  At the time sigma was considered second level.  Lower than the camera body makers.  What you got when the other stuff was too expensive.  Things change though.

My info is older than that.   So old sigma lenses only perhaps.

they are going to be sharper but the the choice between the 30 and 56mm comes down to are you trying replace or supplement the 35 1.8? and do you want something wider or tighter?
