Are there any current models available that go well below 13" ?

I'd like to explore this option. The use case would be mostly web browsing, office and emailing, where a phone is just too awkward to use.

When I do research, I usually have 10+ browser tabs opened and swap between them frequently, copying stuff into LibreOffice while composing an email in Thunderbird.

I'm looking for the smallest possible option with a usable keyboard. I'm okay with a little knob to control the mouse instead of a trackpad, as long as I can connect a travel mouse.

The OS will most likely be Ubuntu. The machine should be powerful enough to run Brave browser with 20 tabs opened, thunderbird and Libreoffice at the same time without input lag.

 Does something like this exist?

Google tells me that's a 13" laptop?

I'm talking 10" or even smaller. Something ultra portable.

In that case GPD stuff is your only option.

I think the sub-13" market is tablet territory nowadays and doesn't make sense for laptops (anymore). From what you describe (lots of tabs, multiple windows, switching between them often) I would say you actually want a larger screen or at least something with more screen real estate.

If you're set on sub-13", maybe something like a Surface Go? That's 10.5". The downside is that it doesn't run Ubuntu to my knowledge.

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Server: CPU: i5 4690k | RAM: 16 GB | Case: Corsair Graphite 760T White | Storage: 19 TB

I don't know how easy it is to install Ubuntu on a Surface Laptop Go, but that might be your pick with its 12.4-inch screen. Just be sure to get a higher-spec model, as the entry version is notoriously inadequate for serious use.

As tempting as it would be to force Ubuntu on a Microsoft machine (I think I would go as far as installing MATE and make it look like WinXP),

the Surface GO is just a tiny bit smaller as something like the HP Probook 635 aero. The HP is a bit wider, about the same in depth (due to 16:9 vs. 3:2), 2mm thicker and weighs less (about 200 grams). With the Probook, however, you needn't fret about multiple tabs, because it comes with a Ryzen 7 and 16gigs of RAM with a second bank free to upgrade to 32gig dual channel further down the line. At least from reading the tech specs, this thing packs a punch at less than 1kg.

It seems that the GPD stuff is the only option for 10" and below.
