I am interested in purchasing a video app.   an actual box, paper instructions, disk if possible.

I would like an app that includes a screen to see the video as it is being downloaded.

Is simple and basic and has editing software included.

I am presently using honestech 2.0 but it doesn't show the video as it is being downloaded.

VLC which doesn't always accept the material I'm trying to download.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated  thank you.

You can use a capture card to display it on screen then use OBS to record from that same screen.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

@joes1234, several of your posts were merged. Please use Edit to add things you forgot rather than post multiple times.

Please elaborate on what you are trying to do. "Download" is very loose term here and doesn't really explain what you are trying to do. Do you want to download content from a website or move recorded content from a device to another? Or are you trying to record content on some device?

Ah. Thats called ripping. The best tools are Handbrake and makeMKV.

My apologies, i was having some real life issues.

Anyway i would suggest the same as what @LogicalDrmsaid, as he is 100% correct. 🙂

ok i'll try them thanks.

so i don't need any hardware or capture card?

just insert dvd into dvd drive and it will show up on my monitor as it's being downloaded?

also,, is there a free or purchased video software available to change the video's format to mp4?

For ripping DVDs you only need DVD drive. You insert DVD, open one of the software (Handbrake is better overall, but makeMKV is more reliable with DRM protected disks). Load disc to software, select files/chapters, audio and subtitles you want, add to queue and start rendering. Its not downloading anything. Software's re-encode video files burned to disk into another format.

Handbrake is the best software for just re-encoding videos to MP4 format. Note that MKV and MP4 are using same container, so you can pretty much just change extension. This will not enable extra tags however.

I don't currently know what software would be recommended if you need to encode to something else than MKV or MP4.
