Hi all,

So I want a 3080 desktop but i work away from home a lot staying in the same hotel for 2 or 3 nights so i would like an all in 1 so i can get the power of a full desktop system but would the parts be ok with the traveling? ie solder joins on pcb's and such things?

What you are looking for is a gaming laptop. You are going to need to pay a premium and not get the exact same performance, but you won’t have to lug around even an itx case where stuff could unplug in transport. I don’t know if gaming all in ones are even a thing.

You can't exactly get a 3080 AIO at the moment, closest, and probably best things to get is an small form factor pc and a monitor of choice

ye i thought that was going to be said tbh my only concern is will the traveling kill the system off quickly ie laptops are designed for the traveling would a AIO be able to handle it

The most problematic issue you will encounter with a 'mobile desktop PC' is the GPU. During transit, the GPU will want to escape from it's socket and go flopping around the case, destroying everything...

So, why not build a DIY system, but do it in a DIY case? Get a pelican case, and mod it so there is a removable GPU mounting system built in to the case. Keep it supported separate from the PCIE slot and the IO mounting bracket, so during a shock load (IE, hitting a bump or dropping it), the case supports the card, and keeps it from damaging other stuff? You would also need to brace the HSF for the CPU.

I'd do it. Get a Mini-ITX board, Pelican case, some plastic, epoxy, and go nuts. Just keep airflow in mind. 😄

So, here's the problem you're going to have, as @Sarramentioned.  A 3080 weighs in at around 5lbs (A bit over 2KG) and it's held in place by...  2 screws and the PCI-E slot?

You hit a speedbump, and either:

1) The card is absolutely getting unseated, or

2) you're losing that PCI-E slot

A good gaming laptop with a good GPU is absolutely the easier solution for this.

Or, you need to be willing to have a case build where you can easily open it, and remove the GPU each time you travel with the case.  (And the majority of ITX builds are not optimized for this, as they're very tight tolerances.)

pcie riser cable would deal with that problem surely but i would want a monitor to be built in so then i dont have to mess about with cabling just drop it down power in and done same as my current laptop

A riser cable is not going to solve the base problem: A heavy graphics card cannot be safely transported while inside a computer case, unless you actually mod it to fix it to the in place.

Most 'riser cable' setups are not going to use anything more than the IO shield and a PCIE interface to actually support the card.

You don't want a 5 lb wrecking ball tearing around inside your expensive gaming PC while cooking down the interstate.

Okay, edit time...

The point that I'm trying (and apparently failing) to make, is simple: If you build a mobile gaming PC, be prepared to make some concessions. Specifically, you need to be prepared to remove your GPU and transport it separate from the PC itself. Keep the box it came in, drop it in there, put that near the PC. When you are ready to game, pull the GPU out of it's box, drop it back in, and game. This could apply to your heatsink for your CPU. If you do aircooled, and you use a ginormous HSF, like a NH-D15S, then be prepared to remove the heatsink and store it for transport as well.

oh no i fully get what your saying i was going for it goes without saying i would have to custom mouse the gpu to keep it solid and if i AIO the cpu then that would be fine  ie something like a node 202 were this would be a lot better/easier to do

As long as you know the risks, and what you're doing, you should be fine. 😄
