CPU support a base frequency (I'm not sure if its because of what chipset supports). Besides that, mobos support overclocking RAM to its max advertised frequency. So your mobo is the key factor on what RAM is supported.

Depending on your choice of your motherboard, you can run your RAM at 3600 (although bit of tweaking might be needed).
