Ram upgrade for an old PC

Hi,

I'm using a pretty old PC,

MSI Z87-G45

I5 4670K

R9 290

8GB (2x4GB) Crucial Balistix Sport DDR3 CL9 1600Mhz

 

I want to upgrade the RAM, and was thinking of getting a 16GB kit (2x8GB).

Will it be ok if I'll add it to existing 8GB? for 24GB? or will it cause issues and it's better to throw the 8GB and only use the 16GB kit?

As long as the RAM is close to what you already have, then no issues. But you will want to ensure speed and timings are as close to the original stuff.

This kit has same clock speed and timings, so it should work. Yes, you can have 24gb by adding to existing kit.
