hi LTT forum =D

I am building a small arcade machine, and for that i bought a second hand mobo.
i also have bought an low profile after market cooler that i want to install.
But the X backplate is glued to the motherboard ( see attachment board2.JPG ) wich is filling the hole's making it unable to install my cooler ( see attachment board1.JPG)
The after market cooler that i want to use, uses a push pin mount.

the board was salvaged from a MSI mini desktop

Brand: MSI
Model of MOBO : MS B9071

Is there a way to remove  the backplate without destroying my mobo ?

I have googled and found 2 suggestions. .

1. using a heatgun but that could damage the motherboard cause of ESD building up in the heatgun ( dont know if thats true or not )
2. using acetone but that could and prob wil damage the board.

With kind regards.

It looks to me like the three silver screws used to anchor the CPU retention system are also attached to the backplate in question. So, in essence, it's still bolted to the board from what I can see.

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

i have removed the 3 silver screws, but than the backplate is stil stuck to the motherboard with glue.

If the backplate is removed from the motherboard, then i could saw off the parts with the cpu fun holes.
And install the backplate again so the cpu holder still has its strengt.

There's no risk of damaging the board through ESD with a heat gun, you can put too much heat into the board and cause the layers to delaminate however.

That looks like it is riveted or screwed to the CPU socket, so a heatgun wouldn't work.
