Just got my hands on a dell r200 from work, xeon quad core 8gb of ram, any ideas of what I could do with this. As haven't got any ideas.

Wear earplugs?

The rack-mount Dell servers can get noisy.

But they make excellent Minecraft servers

Oof, a Core 2 era server. Not much you can do with that nowadays.

Normally I'd say, slap a hypervisor on there and build some VMs to experiment with,

but there's not much you can do with 8GB RAM in a server.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

  • 1 month later...

Do you have any other services in a homelab running already? There are lots of possibilities with these little R200/R210 series rack mount units.

A small NAS or something that you could run docker containers on might not be a bad idea if that's something you are into 🙂
