Im in the 1st year of high school now and Im studying Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics to be exact. I just wanted to ask...if I go to college is it stupid to NOT go to a university which studies this, like is it a BAD choice to go to a university where you do something else, is it wasted time of high school studying and should I just go for a college that focuses on the same or similar thing that I am doing now in highschool? Because you know what I like and dont like might change in the future.

each university can offer a different level of education for the specific major you want. engineering universities can offer more resources and information to better your education. you are just going to have to research universities and find out which one offers what you want.

I'd say it's a bit too early to decide what you want to do for college, it's never bad to study a specific subject in high school, but around junior year you should have a better idea of what you want to do. Don't worry about it, you're not wasting your time (no more than anyone else is in high school). If you're interested in engineering in general though I'd recommend taking as many engineering classes you can (if your school has them).

Tbh study is never wasted as most of the life/study skills you develop from it as well as experience of the expectations of work at that level will always be transferable to another subject even if the material you studied isn't related.  For example I trained in IT support but I now work in Finance.  The skills that transfer well are problem solving, numeracy, dealing with large clients and budgets etc

So I wouldn't worry at all especially if it's a while away, try things out see what you like before making a decision.

If you are really interested in something then I would say that the most relevant course is the best way to go. As long as you keep learning and enjoy what your doing, then it doesn't really matter whether its college or university. Just don't do nothing ;)
