Should I upgrade yet

Go to solution Solved by RONOTHAN##,

If it's still running the games you want to run, don't upgrade. Even if it's not, I wouldn't recommend upgrading in this market. Wait until you can actually buy new parts before you think about upgrading. Once that happens, I'd swap out the 1060 first, as a 9600k is still a pretty nice gaming CPU

If it is working well for you, keep it. This is a bad time to upgrade. With that being said, a 3060ti would be the best upgrade that is available now. Your CPU is still good and would not bottleneck a gpu upgrade much.

My primary system: Core I7 10700k, 32 gb Trident Z RGB ram@3200mhz, EVGA GTX 970 SSC (will upgrade), NZXT N7 Z490 motherboard (Black), Samsung 970 Evo plus 1TB SSD, NZXT C850 PSU, Hyper 212 EVO cooler (getting new water cooler soon), NZXT H510i case.

My secondary system: Core I7 4820k, 16 gb quad channel 1600mhz ram, GTX 780 reference, Asus PX79LE, SK Hynix GOLD s31 500gb SSD, some 10 yr old Cooler Master 750w psu, Hyper 212, old Cooler Master case.

Laptop: Lenovo l380 yoga I5 8250u, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd storage)

This may seem dumb but what does bottleneck mean again?

It means that one part of your system is slower then the rest. Imagine if you had a bottle that you were trying to drain. If you cut the neck of the bottle off, it would drain faster. Your FPS is like the water flowing out of the bottle, and your slowest component is your bottleneck.

Ohh ok, so for example if I had like a 5950x then like a gt 710 that would be an example of a bottleneck?

Hi, I have been thinking about upgrading some parts of my pc for a little. I was wondering what parts I should keep and what would be worth it to upgrade.

I have a 1060 6gb

i5 9600k

a gigabyte z390 which I think is the mini atx version.

Oops thought this was a discussion room not a thread. My bad.

But I 100% agree with him. Wait and see, I believe amd, intel and Nvidia have quite the show coming in 2021-2022.

And it's up to you. If you like to gradually upgrade then wait till mid year to see if people start selling their 20 and 30 series cards for a good price.

If you're like me and you like to build a whole new system then I suggest you wait till 2022. Be patient and reap the rewards.

Good luck

Yes! Similarly, pairing an antholon 3000g with a 3090 would be a bottleneck.

You have an incredible processor and motherboard. Your 1060 is a little dated, given the prices of graphics cards right now, i would hold off. I would focus on the fine tuning, Heres a few ideas

Cooling- Upgrade Cpu cooler "maybe get a higher overclock", maybe grab some new noctua case fans

Storage- you should have an m.2 slot or 2, check out some of the WD Black NVME drives on Newegg, they always have good deals on those drives

Memory- Look into what your timings are and speed. Find yourself some faster ram, give your machine a little bling with some Trident Z Royal.

When im itching for upgrades and my timing isnt right with the market i always try to find other ways for performance. I try to optimize every part of my build to make it the best it can be. I feel your processor will handle the latest titles for years from now. Give it the cooling it needs and the ram it wants, and it will last you even longer.

Hope this helps

I also think I might have  to get a new mobo because when I plug in my rgb into the 3 pin rgb place it doesn’t work. The thing that has the rgb I got recently and it was working earier, so I think the mobo is the issue
