Okay, so the other day, my house had 2 power cuts, both of which turned of my PC without warning, and now my CPU Fan randomly stops spinning and My gpu stops aswell, i have narrowed my problem down to my cpu fan as when i unplug the cpu fan and plug it back it it starts to work again, but only for a few hours,

Should i buy a new fan or is there something else that i can do with my problem?

Thanks!

My Build: | CPU: Intel Core i5 4570 | Mobo: ASUS H81M-C mATX | PSU: Corsair CX750 | Storage: Seagate 1000GB SSHD | RAM: 16GB Vengance (x2 8GB) | Case: Zalman Z11+ | GPU: XFX HD 7970 DD Edition 3GB DDR5

I'm no expert but, have you got any other PC that you could test this CPU fan in to see whether it really is the problem and not something else? Also, do you have your PC plugged into any kind of surge protector?

Okay, so hopefully nothing has been fried. That's good at least.

@fenderj98, unfortunately CPU fans or case fans aren't my area of expertise. I can only think of things that I would do if I had to think on the spot. However, if you need someone with more knowledge in this area you could try asking @looney or @Whaler_99.

I don't think CPU fan is faulty. That thing either works or doesn't work at all. Its more likely that your PSU or mobo has got some power delivery issuers since GPU also isn't getting power.

Well I think, based on what LoGiCalDrm said, it's looking as though you may have to replace your PSU, is your PSU still under warranty?

Would you completely replace the PSU if you were having the OP's problem?

If I would have another PSU, yes. But before that I would do some stress testing to see when GPU/CPU fan die. If CPU fan is only faulty one it will die in any fan header or connected straight to PSU so those are good to test also. But in general fans are pretty robust compared to many other components in pcs.

E: for example. I fried my older fan controller with 3 fans connected to it. All fans work, controller doesn't.

Also he states the GPU fan is shutting down as well. Typically that it controller by a controller on the GPU board itself and has nothing to do with the motherboard. I would say off hand, you may have a few buggered components. First off, sounds like your mobo may be having an issue. Go into the BIOS and check the CPU fan control. See if it set to always on or some other mode where it may be shutting down. Still weird. Sounds like a mobo issue.

As for the GPU, if that fan shuts off the GPU core is going to overheat asap. I have only ever had a single fan motor go on me over the years.

One question - how old is the mobo, CPU fan and GPU card?

Thanks mate for replying. As stated above, this area isn't my strongest as far as knowledge goes, although did try to give the OP some advice on what I would do if I had try and think on the spot, but thanks for stepping in and helping. It's very much appreciated by me and I imagine the OP also. :D
