no way to tell until you boot it up. it overall looks cosmetic and I doubt anything's broken.

Usually the epoxy case on semiconductor devices are really strong in terms of temperature resistance. They're designed to go through an oven that can peak over 300C for a couple minutes at a time. I doubt your iron damaged it, though it is a little weird that you were able to melt it at all. I've never been able to do that. Hopefully it still works, but there's only one way to tell.

Well... how bad is it if the chip fails? Is this a case where a shorted chip takes out $500 worth of parts, or poses a safety hazard? If the answer is yes, then just play it safe and change it. If failure isn't a big deal, then just try it and see what happens. Good chance it'll still work, but if I were working on someone else's equipment, I'd probably change it unless it was impossible to source.
