Dell U3011: how much money to get a quite better monitor?

davidrf

Hi there, I recently had to substitute a 2012 Sony Bravia TV 42" (which I paid 1500€ at the time) considered one of the best in its category with a 2020 Samsung TV 43" that costed me 400€ on Amazon, and I noticed the Samsung is quite better than the old Sony in every single aspect even though it costed 1/4 of the price. It's clear 8 years of technological advancement is a lot.

Now, following the same principle, I wonder how much money would I have to spend to buy a substantially better monitor than my Dell U3014 (bought in 2012 for 1300€).

Thanks!

monitors improve quite slowly, the 3011 is a professional monitor with an old ahips panel (which i'm still using).

The cheap equivalent of that is the pa243w (80% rec2020) for 24inch, or the pa271q for 27inch, the color improvements are...ok on paper, but it draws way less power than the older models. The monitors cost 700 and 1200 respectively. I consider these to be updated version of your 3011

the current top panel with hdr thrown in is the pa27ucx at about 85% rec2020 at around 3k usd, This will be a true upgrade by forcing hdr  (the apple one might be a bit better, i dont know the model #)

There are miniled monitors that are coming out that has 90% rec2020 coverage for both gaming and professional use at 5k-7k usd

https://finance.sina.com.cn/tech/2020-11-28/doc-iiznctke3706701.shtml the leaks are in chinese, leaked prices were on a separate post

Personally if you can afford the 2021 models i recommend just waiting.

Edit: The LG CX/C9 OLED tvs gets really close for an affordable price for non-hdr content, think it was 1400usd for a 46inch if you need a larger panel that looks decent.
