not using 100 gpu with 3080

DxRalph

Hi all,

Im having issues with my 3080 in certain games. I will be playing apex and in menus and while flying in i will have 100% gpu usage but ass soon as I land and go anywhere it hover around 50%. This seems weird. My CPU never hits 100%

My specs are

Ryzen 2700x

16gb 3000Mhz Ram

3080 Suprim x

850 prime gold plus

Let me know if you have any suggestions... Thanks!

It does,

Shadow of war has the same, rise of the tomb raider has it too... I should be getting more than 144 fps in apex I feel

If you're only getting 144fps then you've got some sort of frame limiting enabled. The reason your usage isn't 100% is because you've effectively told your graphics card don't render anything more than 144 frames a second, and so despite it being capable of more its not. Thus the lower usage.

Indeed if you have something like v sync enabled then it must be it ... if not ... If you don't get to 100% gpu usage of close to that you are most likely cpu bottlenecked ... I don't really know how apex use the core of the cpu but you most likely have at least one or two cores (maybe more too) that are often pinned to close to 100% and the rest sitting idle or not doing much.

it's surprisingly hard to find info on apex on older amd cpus

it's a slight cpu bottleneck, the cpu doesn't need to be at 100%

from what ive seen it dips under 144fps, alot, the game's pretty cpu intensive, wouldnt worry too much about it.

Though there was some1 with a really tuned 2700x at 4.2ghz and 32gb of ram getting 130-160 instead of 110-140.

Just to clarify, It does go above and below 144 fps, and i think the highest my cores have gone is about 85%. Maybe you are right and its causing a small bottleneck. Would a 5600x be a big upgrade in this case? all frame rates are unlocked and never any vsync. What about the other games? they never use all of my gpu when Heaven benchmark does. same issue? I presume so

Heaven is a gpu stress test, it's meant to use the gpu to it's full capabilities ... if you don't see 100% usage in other task it's that something is preventing it ... be it a fps limitation or bottleneck from somewhere ...

The 5600x would be (if you can find one) a good upgrade as the ipc is better than the 2700x.  It's still rare for games to use all the 8 cores of a cpu so the 5600x would probably serves you better than your current 2700x.

Some games will be CPU limited

Some will be network limited

high end GPUs are more helpful for single player games in my experience.

another note, even League of Legends seems to be unable to keep a stable fps, which is an issue i never had before the 3080. Also, when spectating on Apex, I will have 240 fps stable? very weird
