Hi!
I just wanted to poke around a little and ask a few things about VR gaming.

I am currently running a machine with an ancient AMD FX-8300 and and a R9 380x. I been trying to play VR games over the link, but they look like s*** and run like (not) butter. I finally got around to ordering a new CPU (Ryzen 7 3700x[5000 series has huge markups form where I am from]) and I've been wondering, if upgrading the CPU and RAM(to 16gb) should I be hoping for a better VR performance or should I not get my hopes up before getting my hands on a new GPU.

I guess that was 1 thing I wanted to ask about VR gaming.

Thanks alot,
MeMy

You can't put a Ryzen 7 3700X in an AM3+ board, and Ryzen doesn't support DDR3.

You will need a new motherboard and RAM as well.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I ordered two 8gb DDR4(3200Mhz) HyperX modules and an ASRock B550 motherboard as well.

Having a more modern system will help a bit, but the 380X will hold you back quite a bit.

PLEASE STOP [Killing] ME I WILL GIVE Y OU ANOTHER DEAL.

Hmm, I see. Thanks!
But would it be worth waiting for RTX 3060 to come available again (it goes for around 600€ [roughly 730USD]) from where I'm from or should I just try to score a second hand RTX 20 series card like 2070 or 2080?

I'd try to live with the 380x for another few months and wait for cards to come down in price. After that, try to score a used 2080. The used market right now is super volatile and everything is marked up 200%.

Yeah, the whole thing is pretty crazy at the moment. People are trying to sell 980s for 500-600€ and we have almost no other option, all the e-marketplaces are out of GPUs - having only Quadros and GTX 1060 and below cards with huge markups.

Yeap definitely worth it, a 20xx would be a huge upgrade already tho, worth considering *if* you get it significantly cheaper than a 30xx, otherwise go with the more modern card.

Thanks!
I'll try to keep it in mind, when looking through the second hand postings for 20 series card

VR is very GPU demanding, you need a R3 390 as "minimum" so yeah I am not sure the CPU upgrade will even help, anyhow buying a GPU now is impossible so if I were you upgrade CPU, board and RAM now then wait for GPU price to become normal again.

Awesome, thanks!
That's actually been the idea for now. Ordered an Asrock B550 mobo, 16gb of 3200mhz ram and a Ryzen 7 3700x. Should arrive in 2-4 days 🙂 I'll probably have to look at a 3070, because 3060 TIs have been so price gouged that it's actually more expensive than the 3070 rn. We'll see what the future and the gods of GPU bring us in the next while...
