I’ve been browsing through GPUs that are available in Lithuania and noticed that we don’t have any RTX 2000 series and mainly GTX 1660 Super, Ti, RTX 3070 and a lot of Quadro RTX 4000. From what I now the Quadro is made for work station but considering the approachable price for an RTX 4000 (~700 euros), is it decent for gaming at all?

Not really, no. It's not built for gaming, so the performance is comparable to a 2060.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

That depends on your expectations.

@EKWorks Quadros use the same chips as "gaming" RTX cards, which in your case is the TU104 which was also used in the RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080. Yeah, they're pretty much the same and ARE NOT magical unicorns.

ESSENTIALLY the only thing you're paying for with the Quadro is workstation drivers, so no, they are NOT worth it for gaming, since Quadros usually cost twice or three times as much as normal cards.

What does this mean in the real world:

  • SolidWorks with a normal RTX 2060: succccc
  • SolidWorks with an Quadro RTX 4000: WOOO WAAAA WEEEE WAAAAA

Imagine playing video games on a GPU without proper drivers - that's essentially the experience you're getting playing around in SolidWorks on a normal RTX GPU, but that's only if you're doing some really advanced stuff.

I am being general here, don't hate me.

All I'd change is  the 2060 succcc to actually quite decent and the rtx 4000 to LUDICROUS SPEEEED 😛

HEY, I DID put a little tiny disclaimer at the bottom. Hehhehehe

I know hence the silly comment :p.

The other way around would be

Games rtx 2060: Good

Games rtx 4000: little less good

Since they are the same card just one is a bit slower and less optimized for games :p.

The funny part, at least where I am, Quadros and Radeon Pros are cheaper than their GTX equivalents....(comparing used ones to used ones, anyway.)

Yep @jaslion you're right, but just to be a bit more specific: in gaming the difference isn't nearly as severe. I'd say... maybe 5-10% less FPS on an equivalent Quadro.

That's insane. People looking to build cheap e.g. SolidWorks workstations need to look into that.

Where abouts are you from @Radium_Angel if you don't mind me asking?

Sh*eeet.... now that is a SWEET deal my man @jaslion.

Makes me want to become an engineer. But I'm in biology, so.. don't have an excuse to buy a Quadro (yet), BUT Quadro sounds like an ice cream brand here in the EU and ice cream is yummy and for special occasions so.. might as well???

UPDATE: here, in Slovenia, I couldn't find a single used Quadro listing 😞  am sad... @Radium_Angel

I bought is for blender, houdini and solidworks (use em both for more advanced sims that blender isn't the best at). Worked like a charm and was worth the investment.

Not sure if this is considered cheap but a few days ago managed to find some for a hundred less. Would it be worth the investment considering I usually edit videos and play games? Games mostly Minecraft and Escape from Tarkov

Please don't take this the wrong way @EKWorks but have you read our posts?

The reason I'm kindly asking this is because I think there might have been a slight misunderstanding, so let me try to explain this in a simplified manner: NO, it is absolutely not worth it and a terrible investment at 800EUR ($950).

It's literally better to pay a scalper 1000EUR for an RTX 3060 Ti or a RTX 3070 off ebay. I'm being serious.

800EUR for what is essentially an RTX 2060 is NOT an approachable price and what will happen is you're going to be disappointed with it's performance + you're going to regret throwing away your money.
