Whenever I go to my windows settings etc to restart my pc in order to enter my bios, spam f2, my screen just stays black until I power my pc off and turn it back on, is the black screen actually my bios but my display cable is messed up or something? or am I pressing the wrong button? My mb is maximus x hero (wifi ac).  I'm just trying to get into my bios so I can enable xmp. I don't get any splash screen either, it's the rotating circle in dot form that windows has, it's black and white for like 1sec then it switches to blue and white , signs me in and then I load into my desktop screen.

You have to press DELETE to enter the BIOS:

Spamming Delete should work, and does on my Asus board, but F2 also works for me, so good luck with that method.

I use the following guide to get into bios on motherboards which skip the option on boot.

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-enter-uefi-bios-windows-10-pcs

EDIT: In addition, to skip the whole going into windows setting part, just hold shift, and restart the computer from the start menu. Keep holding shift until the boot menu comes up.

Where did you get that screen shot?

The motherboard's manual, page 2-19.

Page 3-2 does mention DELETE or F2 though.

Why isn't my f2 working then? I don't think delete would work if f2 didn't

Not sure, but you can't rule out DELETE working when you haven't tried it.

Do you have another keyboard to try out

I will give it a try, if it doesn't work I do have an older keyboard but I know f2 does work it's just weird that it won't boot up if I press it

I've tried both delete and another keyboard and no luck, my pc is on yet my screen is black.

Try going into the BIOS another way.

Turn on your PC, boot into Windows, open the start menu and right click the power button. Now hold Shift and press "Restart". Under advanced you will find "boot into UEFI" (or something close to that). Try that.

There is nothing that says boot into uefi, just uefi settings. Also could it be my display? Should I try plugging my display into my mb?

UEFI settings is the boot into UEFI/BIOS option.

You can try plugging into the motherboard, but:

1. keep in mind some Intel CPU's don't have integrated graphics (those ending with an F don't have iGPU)

2. your motherboard should default to the graphics card and turn off the iGPU

I have an i7 8700k, you wouldn't advise me plugging my display into the mb?

I figured it out, my bios wasn't displaying because I had my monitor plugged into my gpu. I plugged it into my mb and I got the splash screen for Asus & now I can get into my bios as long as I have a display for it. I have a 2nd hdmi cable I just plugged into my TV for a second display.
