Sleeving PSU cables

The tutorials on custom sleeving psu cables I have seen start with a big old coil of wire and cut each piece to length then crimp all the ends ect. Is there some reason not to (or disadvantage to)  just using the psu cables already installed, get one of those little tools to remove the pins from the plugs and individually sleeve the cables?
