Budget (including currency): £1650

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Doom Eternal, Witcher 3, Hitman 3, a lot of games from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Solidworks, a lot of general multitasking, and also for uni work.

Other details I'd love to play at as high settings as possible, preferably 1440p - i'm planning to upgrade monitor in the near future, most likely a g-sync compatible ultrawide. I'm planning to (somehow) get a RTX 3070 up to £550. I already have an MSI cooler and RAM, which i got quite cheaply. I need a lot of storage so I've opted for one 1TB NVME M.2 SSD, and a 7200rpm 2TB Seagate Barracuda drive. i really like the case I picked as well. The motherboard has all the ports I need, and all the connections necessary for the case headers, including a USB type C, which is great.

Any ways I can improve this build? 🙂

You're using integrated graphics?

(nevermind missed it on part list lol)

Build:

  • CPU: AMD 3700x
  • Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO RGB
  • Motherboard: MSI x570 tomahawk wifi
  • Memory: Teamforce Delta RGB DDR4-3000 16 GB
  • Graphics Card: EVGA 1660 SC ULTRA
  • Case: Fractal Design Meshify C
  • PSU: Fractal Design Ion 660w
  • OS: Win 10 Pro
  • Case fans: Sickleflow 120 RGB (3-pack)

Nothing I say is guaranteed to be correct, please remember this. I'm still learning every day.

Feedback is appreciated!

(in other words i can say stupid stuff so double check what i say)

That mobo is overkill. I have it, and I should have resarched 1st, might as well just go for b550.

the x570 tomahawk is just 15 bucks more than the b550 x570 will give a better upgrade path and the case is just ok we can save on the case spend on other components

yes but something like a B550-A-Pro is 100 less, and will work great with a 5800x.

Also you can spend more on the case, im stating that the case itself is bad.

Lastly how will x570 give a better upgrade path?

is there really that much of a difference between amd and intel? What if i managed to get a new i9-10900k off eBay cheaply? Also i'm waiting on 11th gen cpus just in case they are better for the same price.

All B550 and X570 boards will support Zen 3 CPU’s, but neither will support Zen 4 because it’s going to be on a whole new socket. (AM5). The IO is dependent on each board, some B550 boards will have better IO than X570 boards.

What do you mean “better everything?” A lot of B550 boards have the same VRMS or Better VRMS than X570 boards literally double the cost.

thats not right. b550 boards are far better vlaue and usually similar or better than x570 boards as @Downkey said

AMD has significantly better multithreaded performance, and better single core performance with Zen 3. 11th gen intel is also getting a big price hike and will barley be an improvement over 10th gen. The 5800x is also really cheap right now, so honestly I think The 5800x is a better buy.
