Hello guys, I just put up a build today and the 5800x has been idling high at around 50-60 celsius at around 1.45v. I have the noctua u12a cooler and x570 dark hero mobo which doesnt allow u to manually change the cpu voltage in the bios. My build is rgb heavy with 6 corsair ll120 and 2 strimer plus cables. Ive read a few reddit posts but still cant seem to figure out if this is normal? Please help!

That seems normal to me, for that processor specifically, at least regarding the temps. As for voltage, you should take it with a grain of salt. That does seem high but it's possibly an error in reporting. My 5800x was idling around 50 degrees with a 240mm AIO. It's the hottest of the four zen3 processors by all accounts from what I've seen.

unless they changed something and if you're really mostly at those voltages... it's gonna last a few months top, I'm afraid!

1.45V isn't going to affect anything if there's no current going through the CPU, which is the case when idling.

The voltage will drop as there's more load on the CPU.

but it's not bad for the chip

op said it would do that *while idling* implying its a constant thing which is *very* bad for the chip. My Ryzen idles sub 1v...

otherwise it wouldn't do it

3600 did the same thing out of the box, with updated BIOS... it was some kind of windows power mode issue because later windows versions actually fixed this.

AMD provided (an actual working) workaround for the time being (for those who'd bother to browse r/amd only however) they never fixed it... not directly obvious at least, that was Microsoft...
