1080p gaming - 3060Ti or 3060?

refinedskillz

My GPU failed me recently, wanting to buy one of the newly released nvidia cards. I game at 1080p and play everything ranging from triple A titles to indie games.

Ryzen 5 1600 - GTX 980 Ti - Broke.

I vote 3060Ti if you can find one. We don't know for sure how the 3060 will perform but from the specs it's probably going to be quite a bit slower than the Ti version.

Powerspec 1530 (Clevo PB50DF2) ~ i7 10875H ~ RTX 2070 Super 115W ~ 32GB DDR4 ~ 2x 1TB NVMe ~ 2TB 5400RPM ~ 1080P 240hz matte IPS

Gigabyte G1 GA-970-SLI ~ FX 8320 @ 3.3Ghz, 1212mV ~ 16GB DDR3 ~ Radeon 570 4GB ~ 512GB NVMe ~ 2x 1TB HGST 7200RPM

Xtras ~ Dell 22" 1680x1050 matte IPS monitor ~ Logi M705 mouse ~ PowerA Fusion Pro Xbox One controller ~ Sony XB950N1 headphones ~ Epson V700 film scanner

Streaming Setup ~ OBS Studio with AMF encoding ~ iVCam bridged to LG G6 ~ Focusrite Scarlett Solo interface ~ TONOR condenser cardioid mic

I’d go for a 3060 Ti. It’s equivalent to a 2080 Super whereas the 3060 is equivalent to a 2070 Super. The Ti will give you higher frames and better RT performance.

The Ti will likely be overkill for 1080p only. I would suggest a 3060 will be enough assuming you aren't using a 144hz or higher monitor.

If the 3060 tracks in terms of where it should fall in FPS, it would be the ideal 1080p card.

The 2070/Super was previously a superb 1080p card, good for 1080p high refresh.  The 3060 should slot right in around the same spot roughly, for a cheaper price now (if MRSP cards ever become a thing again)

The 3060ti is on par with 2080 super.  No one ever needed a 2080 super for 1080p gaming.  It was a 1440p or above card.  It will certainly serve you well at 1080p, but you dont need a card that powerful for 1080p.
